PAST PROJECTS

Down the years, I have worked on a number of projects which I now do not have the time to devote to.
Some of them are still dear to my heart, and maybe one day I'll go back to them. But, for now, they are part of the past.
Among them are my Porcelain Jewellery products; the Porcelain Wall Art range; the 'Alzheimer' decorative tiles; the photography work I used to do; my textile designs; and an engineering project I called The Body-Friendly Toilet.
Also, of course, there was the 'Tony Blair Artist Rat' project, which became internationally famous, but which came to an end when the Artist Rat himself passed away.
This page is just a reminder of some of those projects, and a bit of an archive.

'Tony Blair Artist Rat' Project

The Artist Rat Project ran from 2007-8, and was reported on by television channels all over the world including CNN.
It involved photography, 'rat sculptures', food and ceramic tiles.
See: Artist Rat Project for an overview.

Wall Art

I got very interested at one point in creating pure white porcelain objects to decorate walls.
The 'Drips' resembled runs of paint; the 'Drops' were like dollops of whipped paint (which I laced with gold-paint); the wavy Stoups were intended for churches, or anyone who liked a holy-water receptacle in their hallway.
The 'Making Impressions' map tiles were a romantic idea, meant to give loved ones who were apart a sense of togetherness.

H11 Tyneside Cinema Seats Photography Project

I was lucky enough to be commissioned to photograph the iconic cinema seats that were removed from the Tyneside in 2006. They went to new homes all over the country - and I followed them.
See: H11 Phtography Project for an overview.

Alzheimer Decorative Tiles

This tiles-range was made in memory of my mother, who suffered from Alzheimer's Disease. They are very personal, but I needed to share something that is poignant about the condition.
See: Alzheimer Tiles Project for an overview.

T-Shirt Textile-Design Project

The famous Dutch design company Droog wanted to see if there were a T-shirt design that hadn't already been created. I came up with the 'No-Iron' design - which went on a Droog world tour in 2008.
See: 'No-Iron' Design for an overview.

The Body-Friendly Toilet

Partly as the result of a trip to South Asia, I wanted to come up with the design of a toilet that would be more ergonomic (and healthy) than the traditional Western-style toilet. Partly a deisign project, partly an engineering project, it has not yet secured the necessary backing for me to put it into production.
See: Body-Friendly Toilet for an overview.

Porcelain Jewellery - Ridiculous Rings

Formerly they were known as 'stack rings', before adopting their street name.
A little warning: ridiculous-rings need maintenance. The string connecting the sections stretches and requires regular re-stringing (for this reason purchased rings come with a supply of string and instructions on how to re-string). However porcelain, from which the rings are made, is very easy to clean.
Ridiculous Rings aren’t suitable for wearing with finger gloves, but they can be worn with fingerless gloves and mittens.
